Quote of the Day

"I’ve been a classroom teacher at Springdale High School for the last seven years....The main problem we face is not academic or literacy or racial or ethnic. The main problem we face is poverty. Too many come from families that are struggling to make ends meet. Too many are forced to work either during the school year, after dropping out, or immediately after graduation. They give little thought to going to college due to its prohibitive costs. Many times the household environment emphasizes work and not academics.

"I think we do very well with the situation we’re given. Hopefully someday we will pay working people enough that they can raise their families in an environment where basic needs are met and potentials are reached."
