Quote of the Day

"In Bella Vista, the new city government is just starting to govern. There’s also the Bella Vista Property Owners Association and its board of directors, which retains certain governmental powers. Members of the POA Board are elected by the property owners of all descriptions: resident, nonresident and the developer, which is Cooper Communities Inc.

"Cooper Communities, by rules it established years ago, is entitled to a vote for each lot that it owns. To control the election of three new board members this year, Cooper created and voted 2,000 new lots — each measuring 4 feet by 4 feet. Cooper voted its new lots, and behold, candidates it did not favor, such as Roger Norbeck, were defeated, and candidates expected to vote the Cooper line were elected.

"...Creating the 2,000 lots may have been legal, but it was rotten, it was dishonest, it was dishonorable. So, by logical extension, was the POA election this year."

--Terry Burnside, "A Rotten Situation," Benton County Daily Record
