Local Citizens on Global Warming Commission

On Friday, Governor Mike Beebe appointed three local citizens to the state's new Commission on Global Warming with the charge that they step in where the federal government has failed to address problems, examine the scientific evidence, and make policy recommendations for Arkansas in responding to the possible negative effects on the Natural State's people, environment, and economy.

Dr. Art Hobson, a UA Professor Emeritus of Physics and guest columnist with the Northwest Arkansas Times, Dr. Betty Martin, a UA College of Agriculture research specialist with a Ph. D. in plant sciences, and Dr. Cindy Sagers, a UA Associate Professor of Biology who studies evolutionary ecology of plant-insect interactions, were chosen for their expertise as members of various groups designated in the authorizing legislation, Act 696 of 2007.

Overlooked in considering qualified appoints to the commission were our local experts Valerie Biendara and Timothy Smith, who have published letters to the editor stating their opinions that global warming is a bogus liberal hoax.
