The Better Part of Valor

Sometimes citizens complain when government does not seem to listen or respond. At other times, we can be thankful when government adopts the do nothing strategy. This week's Fayetteville City Council meeting provided two examples of the latter.

The Council once again tabled a decision about the possibility of the city picking up the approximately $ 70, 000 cost of dredging a private lake for the convenience of private property owners in the exclusive Boardwalk Subdivision. No action is far better than spending tax dollars for the benefit of a few people in the upscale subdivision.

The Council also tabled a decision on a revised design proposal to stabilize the stream banks and reduce erosion in the public Red Oak Park. That action allows for further discussions regarding the possibility of adding rain gardens to the solution for controlling storm water runoff.

Both of these decisions to table the resolutions suggests that our elected officials are listening and considering the public good, and they should be commended for doing so.
