Rogers Among the Chosen Few

Rogers has been named to the CNN.Money Top Ten Best Small Towns, just behind Fishers, Indiana, and Ames, Iowa. They say that being located next door to Walmartville gives it a relatively cosmopolitan feel. The article, however, warns, "Not all is picture perfect: Rogers does contain some rundown areas. Though Wal-Mart has had layoffs in recent years, the jobless rate here remains low."

Rogers is the only Arkansas town in the Top 100 this year. For the last two years, Bloomberg Businessweek has named Springdale as the best small town in which to raise your kids. Local real estate agent Judy Luna says that will teach the snobs in Fayetteville.

Nothing yet posted on the Rogers Blog, but keep checking.

  1. Yes, Rogers has gated compounds to keep the pesky poor at bay, but West Walnut is a bigger strip mall than Sprngdale. People should move to Lowell and get the best of both worlds plus a stagecoach.

  2. Rogers has a Gauleiter, chickendale just a mayor.

  3. Fayetteville needs to get more Hispanics if it wants to play in the same league as Rogers and Springdale.

  4. It is a matter of priorities. Rogers has a constructed fine senior center. Springdale has the wonderful Jones Center. Fayetteville is still paying off a $63 million cost overrun on a sewer plant.

  5. Fayetteville has a fine senior center with a cathedral ceiling that evokes a question from every new visitor I have ever met there. Why wasn't the money spent on usable floor space instead of a lot of decorative open space to heat and cool?

  6. Aub, you didn't mention the other big question at the Fayetteville Center: Why doesn't the Fayetteville Center have a hot tub and warm-water pool for the old people to exercise and soothe their bones and joints? Springdale and Rogers have fine water features indoors open to all.

  7. Fayetteville could have many things if the money had been spent right a decade ago. And the contractors from outside Fayetteville oversee the place as if it were a jail for the aging. They wouldn't allow any little old ladies to change into a skimpy swimsuit on the premises.
That change in management a few years ago chased off all of us who tried to make being at the center a happy experience.

  8. I think forward lookin Fayetteville is leader in NWA corruption, save for the 18 yr cycle of inevitable police scandals in Chickenopolis. Your CHOSEN ONE, Coody, saw fit to keep you near the top.

Just wondering when the purveyors of safe and good places will run something about the most likely small area where your child will get molested or sexed by a teacher, coach or assistant. Presently Springdale is the leader but prior to that seems Bentonville led the way. Maybe Siloam and Gravette could compete in this one.
