Sierra Club Endorses City Candidates

The Ozark Headwaters Group of the Sierra Club has announced its endorsements of Mayor and City Council candidates in Fayetteville. The endorsements were based on candidates’ public records; their responses to a series of detailed questions about environmental issues, their presentations at the candidates’ forum held at the UA School of Law, and the club's assessment of the candidates ’ likely effectiveness as public servants with attention to environmental values.

The Sierra Club endorsed Lioneld Jordan for Mayor, citing both his outstanding record and his trustworthiness.

For the City Council, the group endorsed Brenda Thiel, Mark Kinion, and Sarah Lewis.

Reports from the Sierra Club candidates' forum indicated that with one exception, all of the candidates for city office professed a strong commitment to environmental issues. That the club went beyond the rhetoric to look at the records and effectiveness is a good sign, and it gives much more credence to their endorsement as a guide for environmental voters.
